BolsenArte Winter Music Festival 2025/26 – String Trio Cristofori-Saggini-Montani

Date
17/01/2026 dalle 17:30

A concert that explores the dialogue between past and present through one of the most essential and intimate chamber formations: the string trio. Born in the eighteenth century as an evolution of the quartet and the duo sonata, the trio for violin, viola and cello has inspired generations of composers, fascinated by the balance between timbres and the possibility of a transparent yet expressively meaningful counterpoint.
The program proposes a cross-cutting path that interweaves classical and contemporary music. It opens with the Sonatas Op. 17 by Johann Christian Bach, youngest son of the great Johann Sebastian, here presented in an unprecedented chamber arrangement. In these pages, the galant elegance typical of the late eighteenth century merges with a harmonic language of surprising modernity, already foreshadowing the style of Mozart, who greatly admired the “London Bach.”
Alongside this historical rediscovery, the concert offers the world premiere of the Trio Op. 22 by Matteo Cristofori, who also signs the arrangement and participates as violinist, joined by Gianluca Saggini on viola and Alessandra Montani on cello. Cristofori’s work, conceived as an ideal bridge between Baroque language and contemporary writing, explores new timbral and spatial relationships, transforming the traditional trio form into a living and dynamic sonic laboratory.
An encounter between eras and poetics, where chamber balance becomes ground for experimentation and dialogue.
