The "Path of the Miracle" is not simply a hike, but a journey through time along the 21 kilometers that separate the Basilica of Santa Cristina in Bolsena from the Cathedral of Orvieto, retracing the very steps that, almost eight hundred years ago, marked the history of Christianity.
This route faithfully follows the path taken in 1263 by the solemn procession that carried the Sacred Linen, stained with the blood of the Eucharistic Miracle, to Pope Urban IV. It was precisely that extraordinary event that gave rise to the universal feast of Corpus Christi.
Today, that sacred route has become an experience accessible to all, requiring approximately six hours of walking.
Leaving behind the shimmer of the lake, the traveler becomes immersed in the silence of the woods of the Alfina plateau, walking on ancient cobblestones and dirt paths, surrounded by lush and untouched nature. It is a moderately difficult route, classified as a hiking trail, that rewards the effort with breathtaking views and a profound sense of inner peace. Whether driven by faith, love for trekking, or historical curiosity, arriving in Orvieto with the “Pilgrim’s Credential” in your pocket means having completed a small yet significant journey to discover the deepest roots of our land.
